Cecil is a character of epic proportions as the transition from an evil Knight to a heroic Paladin is one of interest and this change causes Cecil to be the most developed character in FF4 and one of the most interesting characters in the Final Fantasy series as the changes are realistic and make total sense. From commander of the evil Red Wings to a celebrated hero, Cecil undergoes very significant changes in FF4.
Major Relations
Throughout the course of FFIV, Cecil has major relations with some characters in the game. It is revealed near the end of FFIV that Golbez, who was made the new commander of the Red Wings, was actually Cecil’s brother and that while Golbez is half-lunarian, Cecil is not. Rosa also has close relations with Cecil as they are longtime friends and Rosa is Cecil’s love interest throughout the game. The Dragoon Knight Kain, is Cecil’s best friend and other than that, Cecil doesn’t really have any other major relations with the other characters in FFIV.
Kain Highwind

Kain is Cecil’s most loyal and best friend and throughout the game, Kain thrives to become a true Dragoon Knight, just like his father was. He also has a secret love for Rosa and is in charge of the Dragoon Knights in the Kingdom of Baron. Kain is constantly under the control of an evil force as he struggles with his curse. Nevertheless, Kain is willing to follow and back Cecil up no matter what happens to him.
Major Relations
Kain is of course Cecil’s most trusted and loyal friend and he is willing to back Cecil up and he also supports his views and opinions too. Kain also knows the people in Baron Castle fairly well and throughout the game, it appears that he is the lone Dragoon Knight with a cause. Kain pretty much shares similar relations with Rosa throughout the game but it appears that Kain only shares a secret interest in her, while Cecil appears to have a definite friendship with Rosa on the other hand. There is very little mention of Kain’s father on the other hand though.
Rydia
Age: 7
Class: Summoner

Rydia is a summoner and as a young girl, Kain and Cecil accidentally destroy her hometown and she hated Cecil and Kain for what they did. Eventually, Cecil helps her heal her wounds after she summons Titan after Cecil and Kain and she joins Cecil and his cause during the course of the game. Rydia is a summoner, meaning she can casts such major summon monsters like Shiva, Ifrit, Bahamut, etc. She is a weak character throughout most of the game, defence-wise.
Major Relations
Rydia has a strong connection with the Mist Dragon, who was slain on Kain’s and Cecil’s initial journey to the Mist Valley. It is apparent that Rydia has no parents and that the Mist Dragon was Rydia’s adopted mother as she cared for her. The Mist Dragon was summoned by Rydia's mother and when the Dragon died, so did her mother. Also, later on, Rydia gets caught in a storm at sea and King Leviathian then brings her to the Land of the Summons. From there, she makes some summon friends and she grows up there as well. From here, it is likely that Edge, the Ninja Prince of Ebland has an obsession over Rydia and draws interest to her. Besides this, Rydia doesn’t really have strong relations with anyone else during the course of the game.
Tellah

Tellah is a legendary Sage who initially joins Cecil for unknown reasons but later on, he finds that his daughter, Anna is dead and he blames the Bard, Edward for his loss. Later on, he ventures on his own and realizes that he was wrong to blame Edward and finds out who really killed his daughter. He slowly regains his memory and eventually learns the destructive spell “Meteo” but he is obviously too weak and his MP is too low to cast it. Tellah can use both White and Black magic so he is quite useful in the early portions of the game.
Major Relations
Tellah has some links to Palom and Porom, twin mages who are engaged in training at Mysidia, Tellah’s hometown. The elder of Mysidia wants Palom and Porom to one day be like Tellah after his time is over, however, it will still take many years of training from Palom and Porom to ever reach the legendary level of the Mysidian Sage, Tellah. Also, Tellah has direct relations to Anna, who is his daughter and he also has hatred for the Bard Edward but later on, he learns that Edward was only trying to protect his daughter in a failed attempt to save her
Edward (Gilbert von Muir)

Simply put, Edward is a freaking coward and a wimp. He is the known Bard of the Kingdom of Damcyan and he’s a talented harp player since he is a Bard after all. Edward joins Cecil’s cause after the castle of Damcyan is bombed and he helps Cecil to cure Rosa’s serious fever as well. He’s not a great fighter though and he tends to hide in battle when he is weak.
Major Relations
Edward doesn’t have too many friends in the game but he does manage to deeply care about Anna, who is the daughter of Tellah. Edward knows the people of Damcyan well as he does hail from that Kingdom and along the way, he does help out the party but even still, he doesn’t have any major friends in this game other than Anna, whom he deeply cares about and loves at the same time too.
Rosa Farrell

Class: White Mage

Rosa is a White Mage who is Cecil’s girlfriend who is always willing to support and be at Cecil’s side no matter what happens to him. She also likes to cheer people up during tough times and she is primarily FFIV’s main healer throughout the course of the game. Later on, she becomes a focal point to the storyline.
Major Relations
Rosa is Cecil’s love interest and both remain very good friends and Rosa also is a friend of Kain, who is Cecil’s most trusted and loyal friend. Besides Cecil and Kain, Rosa doesn’t really have strong relations with any other characters and she is at the centre of Golbez’s evil plans as she gets captured by him. Eventually, Rosa and Kain help Cecil in his cause and they all want to restore peace not only to Baron but to the world as well. Rosa remains faithful to Cecil, no matter what happens to him.
Yang Leiden

Yang is an expert in the art of Karate and is also the prince of the Kingdom of Fabul. He is a man of honor and loyalty and he is a fairly decent fighter so he comes in handy in most situations. He plays a small role in the game but he’s quite a unique character to use however.
Major Relations
Yang doesn’t have close ties with any other characters in the game except for his wife and the people of Fabul. Yang is disinterested in making friends for the most part but since he is full of pride and honour, he does manage to sacrifice himself for Cecil and the others. While Yang has few friends, he is still a trustworthy character and he has a reasonable personality. Basically, Yang joins the quest mainly to back up his word and he’s mainly doing it to pay back Cecil for helping him out in a tough battle.
Palom

Palom is also an apprentice Mage in training just like his twin sister Porom. However, he is learning Black Magic instead of White Magic and he is quite rude for the most part. He plays the same role in the game as his twin sister, both are minor characters though.
Major Relations
Palom is the twin brother of Porom, both are Mages in training in Mysidia. Like Porom, he wants to be like the Sage Tellah when he gets older and he’s under the training and guidance of the elder of Mysidia. Palom doesn’t really have any major relations with the other characters other than his twin sister and the people of Mysidia.
Porom
Age: 5
Class: White Mage

An apprentice, she is a White Mage in training in the village of Mysidia and she joins Cecil for secretive reasons, which I will list soon enough. She is very polite, personality-wise and usually has to remind her twin brother to behave in certain situations.

Porom is the twin sister of Palom and they have relations to the people of Mysidia and both she and Palom want to be like the legendary Sage Tellah when they grow up. Of course, it would take years of training but during the game, Porom’s main relations are with her twin brother and the people of Mysidia.

Cid is the chief engineer of the Kingdom of Baron and is the main engineer behind the construction of the airships in the Red Wings’ air force and development as well. Cid, while serious at times, mainly provides comedy relief throughout the game and he’s also quite crude in a humorous kind of way. Cid is also a strong character in the game and he’s another fairly important character in the game. It appears that Cid sometimes overworks himself and is occasionally over-enthusiastic, sometimes more than necessary.
Major Relations
It is unknown about Cid’s origins although he seems to have a connection to King Baron in some way. Cid was hired as the chief engineer of the Red Wings and from this, he probably knows King Baron fairly well. Cid doesn’t really have many friends though, except for his apprentices and the other people who help him work on the airship. Cid is willing to follow Cecil’s cause after realizing that his prized work is being used for evil and for war as well.
Edge Geraldine

Edge is the young prince of Eblan who has an extremely large and annoying ego as well. He also has the unique ability to throw objects and since he’s a Ninja he can equip two swords at once and use them in battle. Edge is quite arrogant and is sometimes kind of stubborn to realize things at times.
Major Relations
Edge has a love interest in Rydia after she grows up in the Land of the Summons but it appears that Rydia isn’t quite interested in him just yet. Edge doesn’t take things too seriously for the most part and the only other characters he has relations with are his parents, who are the King and Queen of Eblan and it appears that Edge has a beef with Cid. Finally, Edge also has a long score to settle against Rubicand, the fiend of Fire. These are the people that Edge has the most relations with though.
FuSoYa

Class: Lunarian

While not too much is known about him, FuSoYa is of Lunarian descent and lives on the moon. FuSoYa is a very important character in the game even though he only makes a brief appearance near the end of FFIV. FuSoYa is quite a mysterious character overall though. Of course, FuSoYa is a very strong magic user, it’s recommended that you use it to your advantage.
Major Relations
FuSoYa seems to have a decent knowledge of the Lunarians and he knows quite a bit about Golbez’s and Cecil’s origins. It is revealed that both Cecil and Golbez are brothers, which is kind of ironic but anyways, FuSoYa appears to also have relations with Cecil’s father. He also knows Zemus quite well and his intentions but he usually doesn’t hang around much with earthlings however. FuSoYa is mainly used to further on the storyline as he doesn’t have many friends outside of the moon.
